I've gone totally mirrorless.
That's in my camera selection; I still occasionally look in a mirror when grooming myself. However, I no longer use Digital Single-Lens Reflex Cameras (DSLR). DSLR's have a mirror inside them that flips up and down so you can see through the lens when you look through the eye piece. I am now using only cameras that do not use a mirror. The image goes right to the sensor.
This move was a big decision. I traded in my Canon 7Dii, the camera I coveted for so long. I waited and waited for that camera to come out. I would look at the Canon rumor blogs faithfully every day. It's coming out next month, no, the following month. It was a waiting game, until one day it finally came out. I couldn't wait to get it and saved up. The day finally came and I traded in my old Canon 7D and a few lenses for the new and improved 7D Mark II.
The Canon 7D II. Courtesy Canon. The new Canon did not disappoint. The pictures were sharp and crisp. There was a big improvement when it came to shooting in the dark. The colors were bright and it was similar in layout to the old 7D, so there was little new to learn.
So why did I give it up?
The answer is size and compatibility. Although I love the Canon, I love my Fuji X-E2 more. It's small, looks like an old Leica rangefinder, and the photos are fantastic. It is also mirrorless. No mirror flapping around so the camera can be smaller and lighter. So I took the plunge and traded in my beloved 7D Mark II for the newest, flagship Fuji X-Pro2.
The Fuji X-Pro 2. Courtesy Fuji. The Fuji X-Pro2 is a 24-megapixel beauty. No less impressive than the Canon 7D Mark II. It looks great and has a good personality. It is small compared to the Canon, just a tiny bit bigger that the X-E2. It's easy to carry, easy to use and I only have to carry one set of lenses – the Fuji lenses. This way, I don't have to lug as many lenses around. Previously, I always had two cameras at a shoot – the Fuji and the Canon. That means two of everything, including all the lenses. Now, I just carry the two Fuji camera bodies and one set of lenses that fit both cameras.
The photos from the X-Pro 2 look fantastic. It's set up just like the X-E2 so I know how to use it right out of the box. The colors are pure and the black and white is ridiculously wonderful. I love it. All good.
So here I am, mirrorless.
