Photoxels Editor's Choice 2016 – Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Camera
This Fujifilm X-T2 Review is based on a production model. All sample images are unretouched, except where specified.
The Fujifilm X-T2 is a mirrorless DSLR-styled interchangeable lens camera. It is Fujifilm's other flagship camera and shares many of the features of the rangefinder-styled X-Pro2.When the X-T1 first came out, we were not too sure whether it was the flagship camera or just the DSLR-styled version of the X-Pro1. Now, it is clear that, with the unexpected enthusiast reception that the X-T1 received from the photographer community, Fujifilm now intends to have two flagship cameras, each targeted to its own specific audience.
Where the X-Pro2 targets a particular type of photographer who prefers an optical viewfinder, uses mostly short focal length prime lenses and shoots primarily documentary stills pictures, the X-T2 is the workhorse camera that should appeal to all sorts of photographers, and especially to enthusiasts and pros. As such, Fujifilm has equipped the X-T2 with its latest and best technologies, including 4K video, a faster AF with custom AF settings, and an optional battery grip that boosts the number of stills frames to 1000, video to 30 min., and EVF refresh rate to 100 fps.
While the X-Pro2 can get you emotional and attached to its beautiful retro look and hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder, the X-T2, though beautiful in its own right, is all business. In features, it seems that the X-T2 is destined to inherit all Fujifilm's latest technologies and will compete with the best DSLRs, which it does very well.
One of the main reasons that Fujifilm has risen to become a successful camera company is that it actively listens to its users, and has drawn a loyal following because of that. So, it's no surprise that the updates in the X-T2 answer directly to the most sought-after improvements X-T1 users have asked for.
The Fujifilm X-T2 is Fujifilm's most sophisticated mirrrorless to-date and, from design to build to handling to image quality to user experience, I have to say it is the most satisfyingly enjoyable interchangeable lens camera I have used so far. Highly recommended!
