Panasonic has announced its new DSLM (Digital Single Lens Mirrorless) camera DMC-GX85, in the LUMIX G range, which incorporates a host of advanced technologies and practical functions in a compact body. There's also 1080p capture (60Hz), should you not need maximum resolution, and a Post Focus function that lets users select an in-focus area after a shot has been snapped.
Although the Lumix DMC-GX85 has a small 16-MP Live MOS sensor, it lacks an optical low-pass filter which helps increase image sharpness.
According to The Verge, the camera offers a smaller and cheaper update designed for amateur photographers and enthusiasts alike, which is a new line up for its interchangeable lens camera that carries a new 16 megapixel sensor and a latest Venus image processor.
With an electromagnetic drive in the shutter unit of GX85, the shock caused by the movement of shutter diaphragm is dramatically reduced and the shutter sound is also minimised.
The Panasonic Lumix GX85 digital camera integrates a LVF (Live View Finder) with 2764K-dot equivalent high resolution and approx.100% color reproduction. This 16:9 Wide Screen LVF boasts approx.1.39x / 0.7x (35mm camera equiv.) magnification and 100 per cent field of view.
Around back is a 3-inch touch display that tilts up by 80 degrees and down by 45 degrees, making it easier to shoot at high and low angles, respectively. For even more creative photography, the Panasonic GX85 integrates the new L.Monochrome mode in Photo Style that offers impressive monochrome capture with rich gradation comparable to that of B/W film. The sensor sensitivity can go as high as ISO 25,600 for low-light shooting and there is 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilization built in to help reduce camera shake for sharper images. Such as Panasonic's G7 and GX8, the GX85 also carries a 4K burst-mode feature, which enables to extract 8-megapixel still frame from a 4K video. One will notice that the camera body now has a 5-axis image stabilization, a ideal match with the existing 2-axis stabilization that is found in the lenses of the camera.
The GX85 comes with built-in Wi-Fi for photo transfer to smartphones and tablets running iOS and Android using the Panasonic Image App. The mirrorless compact camera will be available in both silver and black versions with a 12-32 kit lens.
The Panasonic Lumix GX85 will be available to purchase by the end of May for $799.99. As soon as we receive a test sample, we will put this Lumix camera to the test and publish an in-depth Panasonic GX85 review.
