Mirrorless cameras are all the rage, but that doesn't mean Canon is done with DSLRs.
Canon's EOS Rebel T6 is the newest addition to the company's range of entry-level DSLR cameras. Aimed at beginners, the Rebel T6, available in April, is super affordable at $549.99 and comes with an 18-5mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II zoom lens.
Most notable are its wireless features — Wi-Fi and NFC — that make it easier to connect to smartphones and tablets for sharing photos online.
The camera has an 18-megapixel APS-C CMOS image sensor and is powered by a DIGIC 5+ image processor. It can shoot continuously at three frames per second and has an ISO range of 100-6400 (expandable to ISO 12800).
The addition of Wi-Fi and NFC are giveaways that this camera is aimed at millennials, but the "food mode" is even more so. According to Canon, food mode "enhances the color and brightness of the food images while at the same time making the images ready to share." Sounds like a feature serious Instagrammers and teeny boppers would love.
On the back is a 3-inch display with a 920k-dot resolution. It's not a touchscreen and it doesn't flip out, unfortunately. The viewfinder only has 95% coverage, meaning what you see through it is not exactly what you get. For a viewfinder with 100% coverage, you'll need to step up to the EOS 80D or something higher (and more expensive) like the popular 5D Mark III.
The Rebel T6 also records full HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080) video at up to 30 frames per second.
As an entry-level DSLR, the Rebel T6 isn't quite as beefy as the new 80D, but it should be just enough for budding photographers.
