Sony India launches Alpha 7R II, Cyber-shot RX100 IV and RX10 II cameras

NEW DELHI: Sony has launched Alpha 7R II full-frame mirrorless camera and Cyber-shot RX100 IV and RX10 II advanced point and shoot cameras in India.

The Alpha 7R II will be available at Rs 2,39,990, the Cybershot RX100 IV at Rs 69,990 and the RX10 II at Rs 94,990.

The Sony Alpha 7R II mirrorless interchangeable lens camera features the world's first back-illuminated full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor as per Sony. It features high-resolution (approximately 42.4MP effectively), high-sensitivity (expandable up to ISO 102400) and high-speed Auto-focus response up to 40% faster than the original Alpha 7R as it has 399 focal plane phase detection AF points.

The camera also includes a 5-axis image stabilisation system borrowed from the Alpha 7 II model, and has the ability to shoot and record 4K videos in multiple formats including Super 35mm (without pixel binning) and full-frame format, a first for digital cameras according to Sony. Additionally, it has a newly refined XGA OLED Tru-Finder with the world's highest (0.78x) viewfinder magnification as per the company's claim.

Sony says the camera sensor's back-illuminated structure, with an expanded circuit scale and copper wiring design, enables faster transmission speed and ensures content can be captured in high-resolution without sacrificing sensitivity.

The camera features a high-speed BIONZ X image processing engine that allows images and videos from the camera to be captured with enhanced details and low noise. There is also no optical low pass filter on the camera for highest possible resolution and clarity, the company adds. The camera can also be set to Silent Shooting mode in order to shoot images quietly without any sensor vibration or movement.

The α7R II model also features a variety of functions to support professional video workflow including Picture Profile, S-Log2 Gamma and S-Gamut, 120fps high frame rate movie shooting in HD (720p), time code, clean HDMI output and others .

The new full-frame Alpha 7R II has an upgraded XGA OLED Tru-Finder with a double-sided aspherical lens that delivers viewfinder magnification of 0.78x for clear image preview. ZEISS T Coating is also available to reduce unwanted reflections.

The camera sports a light, rigid magnesium alloy design, and has an improved and re-designed grip and shutter button compared to its predecessor. It also has a new mechanism to lock the mode dial, and an expanded range of customisable functions and buttons.

The new Sony Alpha 7R II camera is Wi-Fi and NFC-compatible, and is fully functional with Sony's PlayMemories Mobile application available for Android and iOS platforms, as well as Sony's range of PlayMemories Camera Apps, The Alpha 7R II is compatible with Sony's line-up of Alpha mount lenses, which now totals 63 different models including 12 native FE full frame lenses.

Sony says it will add eight new lenses to its FE full frame lineup by early 2016. The camera com es with free carry case, micro HDMI Cable, 64GB SDXC high speed Memory Cards, battery charger (BC-VW1) and 2 rechargeable batteries.

The Cyber-shot RX100 IV and RX10 II models feature the world's first 1.0 type stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor with advanced signal processing and an attached DRAM memory chip, as per Sony.

These work together to enable more than five times the readout rate of image data with features rivalling professional-level video cameras. These capabilities include 40 times super slow motion video capture at up to 960fps, an ultra-fast Anti-Distortion Shutter with a maximum speed of 1/32000 second, and high-resolution 4K movie shooting.

The cameras have the ability to record super slow-motion videos of up to 40x slower than the standard rate. Prior to shooting, users will have the ability to choose among 960/1000fps, 480/500fps and 240/250fps frame rates and among 60p/50p, 30p/25p and 24p playback formats.

The fast processing capability result s in continuous speeds of up to 16fps on the RX100 IV, and up to 14fps on the RX10 II for an extended period of time, Sony claims.

RX10 II can shoot 4K videos at extended lengths of up to 29 minutes, while RX100 IV can shoot 4K clips of up to approximately 5 minutes in length. Both cameras also have advanced dual video recording functionality, allowing shooters to capture 16.8-megapixel still images during 4K video recording in any of 11 different composition patterns.

The new RX100 IV maintains the compact, pocket-sized design of the RX100 family, and has a ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T 24-70mm (35mm equivalent) F1.8-F2.8 lens, while the new RX10 II has the same body design as the original RX10 and feature a ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T 24-200mm (35mm equivalent) F2.8 lens.

RX100 IV enhances the photography experience with its 180- degree tiltable LCD.

Each of the cameras is equipped with a new high-contrast XGA OLED Tru-Finder with approximately 2.35 million dots of resolut ion. The RX100 IV continues to have the convenient retractable Electronic View Finder with ZEISS T coating from the RX100 III model that debuted last year.

Both of the new models feature an upgraded Fast Intelligent AF system that enables high-speed, high-precision contrast detection of a moving subject in 0.09 seconds.

Sony says its proprietary AF algorithm allows the models to recognise and lock-in on a subject with a simple half-press of the shutter button at a much more efficient rate compared to previous models. The new cameras also have Wi-Fi and NFC compatibility and the ability to access Sony's PlayMemories Camera applications.

Both models feature a variety of customisable controls and buttons to fit the style of any shooters. The RX10 II also adds dust and moisture resistance.

The cameras come bundled with a cary case, a micro HDMI cable and a 64GB SDXC high speed memory card.
